Easier tiny carps comming in 5.3

Just spotted this on wowhead:

In addition, Tiny Red Carp, Tiny Green Carp, Tiny Blue Carp, Tiny White Carp appear to be cageable on the latest 5.3 PTR build. Currently, these fish have a very low chance to be caught on live, and are both BoP and unable to be caged--meaning if you want it, you had to catch it yourself.


I expect them to become fairly common among collectors due to that change. Only suitable for such bland pets.

It is true at the moment anyway on ptr the carps are cageable.

Aww, I kinda like the pain it takes to get these, it means that the person is dedicated to both fishing and pet collecting. Makes them neat unique things.

At least they're not becoming easier to catch in the first place. Means people will be less likely to farm them.

I wonder if they can be caught more than once per character/account on live, currently.

I have read posts of people saying they have fishing up mulitple carps of the same color.

Haven't seen it myself, but I haven't tried for the same color either.

That's what I was more concerned about, them making it easier to fish them up. At least now they'll seemingly sell nicely.

Hopefully that will make it to live. While fishing is ok, having to endlessly fish for pets that are just recolors of two existing pets isn't really fun.

After 4000 casts or more just in blue carp area I got one last evening so my second color and more than 10000 casts total, so for us with bad RNG this is nice but I wasted so much time so far I also think it is unfair to do it now, should have been this way from day one.

I think with all the effort people put into getting them in 5.2 they could at least wait until next expansion to make them cage-able - I liked that there were four pets to separate the dedicated from the AH purchasers. I hope they do NOT make this change in 5.3

Well, they could at least introduce the bad luck streak protection for those drops. Let's face it, even with the recent changes, fishing is not very exciting. If you are unlucky you keep clicking and clicking for hours on end without getting a fish. It's just mind-numbingly monotonous and doesn't really show dedication in my opinion. Dedication would be to finally get the Brawler's Guild pet for example, which requires more than simply clicking all the time.

I suppose it'll be nice for those who are having trouble with a particular fish, and someone else is lucky enough to nab two just by sheer luck. Like some people above have posted, they aren't becoming easier to catch by any means, and will be fairly expensive on AH to begin with anyways.

I'm really glad they are doing this. I was just going to skip 'em, simply not worth my time. Same with the Giant Sewer Rat - paid gold and never looked back.

The sad part is, instead of being happy that more people can enjoy these pets and watch their treasured collection grow, several of you are pissy because you'll no longer be special unique snowflakes who can prove they have hours and hours and hours to waste fishing up these things. It's nothing more than naked selfishness.

I have to disagree.. these (at the moment) seem to be some of the 'I worked so hard to get to this point' kind of pets. Before Pet Battles; it was progress rewards, 125, 150, etc.
In between Raids and dailies - and I don't PVP - I have a few free minutes to farm for these while gathering up feast mats and fish for the 3 Nat Pagle dailies.
I don't mind if they become cageable - I just hate to lose something that takes a bit more effort if the drop rate were to be increased. Not because I'm "selfish" or "want to be special" but simply because I like good old fashioned hard work and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment once I get what I'm after.

And truth be told.. unless you can survey every single player and prove your argument; it's really pointless to claim everyone has hours to waste as if it were based on fact. So many reasons people can farm up hard to obtain pets - and 'hours to waste' shouldn't be considered the first.. (Various examples above to begin with.)

It's a long-standing tradition in WoW to take something hard or rare and make it easier to obtain in the name of "fun." The only advice I have is that you enjoyed the rarity while it was rare.

I had Onyxia drop her mount the day the raid encounter went live. It was a server first, if not NA first. For years I got a lot of attention for it; with MoP it's become far more common. While it saddens me to have lost my LOOKATME! beacon, the reward wasn't the continued attention, but the memory of accomplishment.

Full disclosure: I have none of the carp and will likely buy them if this goes live

I don't disagree with making the Tiny Carps cageable, and I think it's great for those who just don't have the time to farm up the fish pets. Some really just can't make time for endless hours of fishing, and with the high RNG factor, luck really isn't a factor you can count on.

I'm just surprised at how soon Blizzard is implementing this change. I would have thought they would add this in the next expansion or at least a few major content patches from now.

But we'll see if this change actually makes it into 5.3. It could be a bug or a mistake/change implemented too early. Everything's subject to change between now and the patch release.
