Tiny Green Carp Prices?

So, I find myself with 5k to spend on a server with a Tiny Green Carp up for sale for 5k at AH. I do want all the carps eventually, but is it really worth 5k? I feel like there are already so many aquatic pets out there, that I am not sure if 5k is a fair price. I do understand that different servers have far different prices, but I just have no real concept of if the carps are worth it. Is there an average time that I will have to spend fishing up the carps myself that will make it seem like 5k was a great bargain? (BTW, I hate fishing...)

I keep worrying that if I spend the 5k, in a day or two I will see what I really wanted which was a Netherspace Abyssal or a Coilfang Stalker or both in my 5k price range and will wish I had just waited...

I'm going for a 100% collection, so I would grab it at 5k. They are rarely on the AH on Dalaran, although typically 10k or over. I dislike fishing, although I have done a ton of it, and I have only been lucky enough to catch one of the pets. The gold to me is definitely worth the timesink of the fishing. The other pets from Kara or SSC can be farmed weekly by soloing the instance rather than buying them.

The carps are ridiculously difficult to fish. Average time investment can be hours, days or even weeks depending on your luck with RNG. I finally got my first carp yesterday, after fishing every day since Blizzard introduced those pets. On my AH (Galakrond), I have seen carp pets at 10k gold or more. If I were you, and I had 5k gold, I would jump for that carp.

Thanks for the input! After I posted this, I started thinking the exact same thing...I have never seen them on the AH of the 3 servers I actively play on at a price I can afford and that alone will save me time fishing. And if I happen to start fishing for the others and fish this one up, I'll either sell or trade it.

I haven't actually tried farming for the Netherspace or Coilfang. I guess I'll try it out one of these days.

I don't know why, but on the servers I check the Green Carps are always the cheapest (2k or even less).
Red Carp on the other hand is another story.

Oddly enough, the Tiny Green Carp is half the price of the others on Earthen Ring. I caught three in one fishing outing the other day and thought I was incredibly lucky. When I went to the AH, I saw a TON of the green ones up. So, I then thought that perhaps the drop rate on the green one was a bit better?

Or a bunch of people had a really lucky RNG day.

But consistently, now for several weeks, the green has been up on the AH for 2500 or less with the others upwards of 10k or more.

Sadly, I still need the others.

there are always 3-4 of every carp on my server, they are usually about 1900

It really depends on your server. High pop servers the greens are below 2k.

It is one of the better pets for transfering money to low pop servers because you can usually double or triple your money ( ToT raid drops are still the best for doing this).

Lol, see what I mean about AH prices being so different? My main is on a low pop server, so we rarely even see any carps at all there and if we do, they are 10k+. I have alts on 2 other servers with higher pops and one is lower priced, but I still rarely have the gold on that server to take advantage. This server with the 5k price was slightly lower than I've seen it there before, but again, usually I did not have the gold to buy. Just worked out nice this time!

@Yamum: Do you have any other carps? And what do you trade them for? My trade list is low other than lots of humanoid, dragonkin and undead BOA stones.

Farm some filthings or direrunts on your low pop server and sell them on Illidian.. along with your extra pandas and spirits. It is so worth having 10k or so on illidian just to pick up really cheap stuff like the fish and the tot raid drops. The other thing is to have an alt at your bMAH.. it is easy to get the TCG pets on low pop servers and sell them on high pop servers for a big markup.

I do have an alt on Illidan, in fact, but most of the items I get extras of sell for a much smaller amount. Like the Pandaren Spirit pets were only selling for 500 g to 1k the last time I had any to sell, same with Gahz and the RWL1 pets that I had extras of. The RWL2 pets were selling for between 2k and 5k at the time. I did manage to find a few pets off the Illidan AH for prices in my range. Unfortunately, my sales on another server were better (Pandaren Spirits selling between 1500 and 3000), which is how I ended up with 5k on another server. That server is the one I found a Tideskipper and Tainted Waveling for relatively cheap. And now the Carp May try farming anyhow just to see what I can come up with for sale.

As for TCG pets, when/if they are on my low-pop server they are over 10k. Even the last time I saw a Hyacinth Macaw it was 10k, though it's been gone for a week or so. Though I did find a Black Tabby Cat (which is also 10k on my server) for 2k and grabbed it!

Wait...is 5.4 coming out today with virtual realms? Won't this completely change the AH and pricing?

5.4 is not coming out today but I am hoping that it will change the price on some items. The big issue is that it will depend on what realm you are grouped with.

What would you be willing to trade for? I don't have much to offer except some BoA humanoid, dragonkin and undead stones. I also think I still have a few extra RWL1 pets (Harbinger, Ashstone).
