Rabid Nut Varmint

So, funny thing. I'm trying to farm up a Rare quality Rabid Nut Varmint to keep my Mechanical Squirrel company... But I'm having some issues. I'm only level 9 on my highest pet (the aforementioned Mechanical Squirrel) so I have to farm Stonetalon. There are only a few, however, and once I killed them all they seemed to stop spawning.

There are ambient Nut Varmints around all over the place, but none of them are battle-able. Do these perhaps have a spawn condition that anyone's been able to work out? I see them around, but I can't fight them. Killing them the old fashioned way seems to have no effect on their spawning either.

Am I just screwed 'til I get to level 15-ish and can go to Winterspring? I really wanted to just get the sucker before moving on...

There's no spawn conditions for the Rabid Nut Varmint. They're basic battle pets, save for the fact that they only spawn in specific areas as you've noted. There's no way to trigger or force their spawn; just take out the wild battle pets in the area and wait for the repop.

That being said, I had greater luck catching mine on a Horde alt. Rabid Nut Varmints spawn at low level in both Orgrimmar and Azshara near goblin-constructed settlements and areas.

I've battled the Rabid Nut Varmint 5000, 2 times at the end of the hill to Krom'gar Fortress. I battled it once, and then went around battling some spiders and came back to find another one.

I also wanted a Rare one because I want to name it "Mechanical Squirrel" to confuse people (no luck yet)
