Does anyone know if carry pets are viable here? My assumption is no, since then you could just do a fight, leave scenario, and re-enter endlessly. With how awesome my Grell does at Yu'la I was considering bringing someone along for the ride, but obviously there would be no point if these fights don't give exp.

I was also thinking the same thing today, but you'd have to find out one of the first trainers to be farmable, because otherwise you'd have to beat 3 trainers everytime and I don't think this is productive. Nevertheless, even Yu'la being easy mode, I do believe they are considered 'beasts of fable', therefore they give bad xp for leveling pets...So, yeah.

I dont know how it works, but i would assume that the 4 celestials doesnt give much exp, in the same way that the beasts of fable doesnt, but the 3 first trainers might :)
