Basic questions -hope You'll help

Hy ppl.
I'm new to pet collecting and I have som questions that I hope you'll help me answer

1 Can I somehow see the quality of the pet I'm batteling? (want to capture)? (That is BEFORE I capture it)
2 I sometimes see a kind of arrow when I mouse over the pet-icon on my minimap. What is that?

Hi Eva,

Well I found this mod for finding out the pet rarity. It only works when the battle starts though. I don't know if it's possible to find out before then:

As far as the little arrow is concerned I'm not so sure. I've seen it on mine for various things, so it may be a mod thing.

I use the petbattlecount Addon from Curse. It shows the rarity of the pets in the battle but it also adds a little asterisk for the secondary and tertiary pet if's its an upgrade. The asterisk is colored to the pets rarity.

The only thing that pops into my head for the arrow is if the pet is at a different elevation than your character. I.E. if you are on a large hill or mountain top and the pet is ground level. Or if you are ground level and the pet is higher than you.

I personally haven't noticed any arrows when mousing over a green paw on my minimap.

For the time being, addons like those linked here are the best option.

Come patch 5.1 though, we may not need those at all as Blizzard is adding even more functionality into the core Battle Pets UI, including rarity and whether pets are an upgrade even.

I will need to keep that addon active, as I just cannot bear the thought of having the recreate my teams with every encounter.

hey eva! I get what you mean on this. I found this macro on this very site under pet battle guide. if you press on the macro once everytime you log on, it will tell you in the chat log what quality you are fighting when the fight starts. It's simple and works. Good until 5.1 comes out I think and avoids having to download anything.

This is correct! The little white arrow next to any green paw print on your minimap only shows up when the pet is above or below your current location.
