Wild Pets Switching themselves over in Battle

I was going for a Scalded Basilisk Hatchling . A Scorpion and a Squirrel joined in.
As normal the Basilisk was first....BUT I hit it ONCE and it switched over , and the Squirrel took its place

Now I have nearly all the Collecting Achievements done. And had lots of battles ... but have never exp this

Fluke or What ??? Has Anyone else come across this ?

I assume it used Feign Death. Otherwise wild pets don't seem to switch out, even if one gets stunned or whatever.

What Peanutty said; it used feign death. You can see a more detailed list of what is going on if you go to the "pet battles" tab of your chat window.
