That's...a REALLY good (yet tough) question. I honestly don't know. If they wanted something that fit the NPC, it would probably have something to do with light and fire and the fifth element, etc.

But if I could add any old random flavor text... well, first thing that comes to mind would be, "This is not a bird" or "This is not a pet." heh I'm a big fan of [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Treachery_of_Images]The Treachery of Images[/url] by René Magritte. It would make absolutely no sense whatsoever though.

Not that I've seen or heard. There actually aren't that many new wild pets (yet), so it's always possible that one with similar spawning as the Val'kyr might show up.
