Did he get duped? I just moved to Proudmoore and it looks like he is cheap as heck...which makes sense only if he was duped.

A _LOT_ of dupes going around at the moment. I've seen multiple sellers selling Ethereal Soul-Trader, Spectral Tiger Cub, Viscous Horror etc. ALL for 17k EACH. Pretty disappointing.

Soul-Trader was duped a very long time ago, but there has been a recent wave of them on the market (along with several others) in the 15 to 20k range. It's very frustrating!
