Menagerie Pet Experience Nerfed?

So, I've been really taking advantage of the battle pet experience you get from battling the Menagerie pet repeatedly.

Today, I noticed I'm getting about 246 exp rather than the 2406 I was getting last night. Anyone else see this happening?

I didn't see ANY mention of a hotfix on mmo-champs or warcraftpets.

It really makes it not worth leveling in the garrison now, though.

I should've asked. If you're talking about pet battles (and not char xp), you do get less xp for the single pet opponents like Eleanor...

Right, and it is Eleanor, but do you get 1/10th as much exp?

Must be like a the beast of fable for single pets, with no tamer. I got the goat too, 297Xp. But could just be for that type of "boss".

Absolutely. Eleanor has no "tamer" like some of the other menagerie battles (1/3 EXP) and is only 1 pet instead of 3 (1/2.5 EXP). Factor in you probably didn't use the same level "carry pet" in both battles, and you can definitely have 1/10 the experience and even less than that.

Check out my carry pet experience reference for details on how it is calculated (I'm still collecting data on WoD battles so those aren't listed yet, but the equation for calculating EXP is there and that is what dictates this).

NOTE: Menagerie battles that are considered to have a tamer include Squirt and any battle where you click on the post to start the battle. Battles where you click on the pet directly do not have a tamer bonus).

EDIT: Example assuming you just have the safari hat on:
Level 10 carry against a post started menagerie battle => 3,135 EXP
Level 24 carry against Eleanor => 218 EXP

That's less than 1/14 EXP.

That is SO reassuring. I had no idea the exact math behind the experience, so that does make sense. I just went into panic mode when I saw that experience drop, after they've been nerfing all the garrison achievements sneakily.

yeah I noticed that too, was used to getting approx. 3000xp, NOW it's more like 300!! UGH!!!

It's always the big letdown after Jahan day at the Menagerie.

On Sunday, the last time we had Jahan and the birds as the Daily, my pet level average went from 14.1 to 14.7 which is pretty huge knowing that I have just over 500 unique pets. I pushed over a dozen pets up to level 25 and focused on getting a slew of rare Humanoid/Dragonkin/Magic/Undead pets from level 5 to level 20.

The day after Jahan is Eleanor day, I don't even bother with any strategy other than killing the damn thing. On the bright side I was working on some pet farming in Northend and found 5 rare pets to replace pets that were currently at uncommon as the best quality so it was a good day afterall.

Yeah... I love listening to (and reading) rl Eleanor, but in-game Eleanor, I just howlbomb into oblivion and move on.



PS as for leveling up, even WITH jahan day in the menagerie, it takes some serious effort to see any progress with 670something uniques and over 860 total pets (breeds, double pets, etc).
