Is anyone else completely disgusted with the way Blizz/Microsoft has monetized pet collecting?

I have been an avid pet collector from the beginning, before battle pets. It was basically the main reason I have continued to play WoW all of these years. With all of these pay a huge amount of money to buy something you dont need just to get a pet has made me stop caring about pet collecting. Am I the only one that is just tired of all the BS that they are doing?

I'm sick to death of it . . . but Blizzard has me over a barrel at this point. I've been collecting pets since I started playing in early TBC. I have put SO much time, effort and money into it that I honestly don't feel like I can quit now (nor do I want to).
So, I fork over my cash and complain while I'm doing it.

Actually Blizzard cured me a bunch of expansions back. Originally was a gotta-catch-em-all kind of collector, even blew some Real Money on some other Blizzard games that I never played because they included a WoW pet. Then they started gating pets behind in-game content I had zero interest in, PvP and Raid Achievements and such. At that point I mostly stopped sending them money for more pets.
Some of the tie-in pets haven't been so bad. Like I found I really like Trolli gummies. But insanity like $150 for a computer mouse or a $100 mouse pad??

I was getting annoyed but then I remembered they haven't raised the basic subscription price in 20 years. I see it as a way to subsidize other players who might be priced out of a monthly price increase. It's a business and companies need to make money. There is so much more content and complexity now in the game. That being said I really resent linking pets to buying products I don't need from outside companies.

I am like you sick to death of it! I cant justify spending so much on something i really dont need to get an ingame pet. I got a family and duties and all. I just want to come online and focus on my collection, but this has me put off. Im thinking of quitting collecting all together. The last few months has been insane on prices... Just cant justify it...

I kind of agree. Having to buy a $200 keyboard lol. But again, like said before, they haven't raised subscription prices. Its good they are making money in order for me to keep playing the game I love.

I paid more in promotional pets last year than I paid for a wow subscription on the month to month charge.. In fact.. it's got to be close to almost double. Also the latest razor promotion was the absolute worst experience I have ever had ever.. I ordered my item on Dec 6th and finally got it in hand March 1st. Razor is run by a bunch of stupid automated bots who cannot follow directions MULTIPLE times some of that being their OWN directions, and Fed-ex couldn't deliver a package correctly to save their life. The combination of these 2 was 3 months worth of stress.. police reports and frustration. I don't mind the occasional special promotional pet.. but having to buy non wow items for hundreds of dollars several times a year is just ridiculous. Then to go and do stupid things like "Gill'el" and it just makes it worse.

Sadly the only way to combat this with the entire WoW community is to have EVERYONE quit buying those items. But as with Mehetabel's comment clearly that'll never happen with players like them who will buy regardless if they are sick of it.
If we can't all come together as a community we aren't going to get much done.
Someone also stated Blizz is a company...well yeah! But they get tons of money from our sub's alone. Not all MMO's that are out have a subscription. WoW compared to FF charges double for the pets, & shit cosmetics that they do offer, more for mounts.

Almost all items people collect are paid for at some point so it is not disgusting.
I think what is dumb, however, is blizzard re-releasing past rare items to everyone because all that does it eliminate the exclusivity. That is what destroys collecting including pet collecting.

Like Ranok, I was cured of my habit. While I figured could never have unobtainable pets I had missed out on, I was determined to get all the pets available in-game.
Until Bucketshell/Sir Snips. That cured me. I will not live long enough to get that PvP level.
So I can now luxuriate in the relaxation of not giving a bleep about absurdly expensive cash pets.
The Twitch tie-in does offend me for its siphoning of our data, but I can ignore it now without regret.

I don't mind buying the occasional product for my added pet. I do object to raiding and doing pvp just to get a pet. I don't do either so I have to hire a group with hard earned gold to help me do the raids and sorta stay on the outskirts and do the alternate kills in the area to do the pvp. Results are a lot of deaths from those that do it and a big investment in time. Oh well that's WOW, and I have been playing it from Burning Legion and will continue.

Doesn't bother me, to be honest. I simply don't participate in content that I don't enjoy, so those pets will just not be collected. Same goes for expensive promotional pets. I didn't bother with the Razer or Steelseries related pets. I didn't even do the latest Plunderstorm content. The first time was not fun, so no way was I going to stress over it again, lol.

yes, after blizzard release some pets in pet store from collector's editions from the past, not sure if future stuffs will be "rare" anymore...I think its common sense that blizzard knows not to release pets and mounts in pet store or to reobtain them again, its point the gun at themselves...a game where Feats of strengths is all about but later not FOS anymore =_=.
Some mounts like the Tyrael's Charger was available again some point for 2 times...lol =_=

I mean gods forbid Blizz makes older items obtainable to newer players, the sheer audacity of the Makers

I was more worked up over the Twitch drops and all that support a streamer nonsense
Like Gainne, I kind of gave up on Bucketshell. And the price that people charge for dropped pets on the AH is insane
I'll never make the top 500 on this site. So there's no real reason for me to care.
I do think it's awful that they prey on peoples OCD. But that's the world we live in.

Isn't that the point of some things being rare or limited time? It is a slap in the face to say you need to spend all this game time to get a pet or you have to pay this much for a special edition to get this pet only for them later to say ohhh here you can simply buy the pet. The people who spent all that time to get it have a right to feel annoyed. I never do serious raiding to get the raid pets (I don't have the DF raid pets for instance) and I rarely pvp so I usually never get those pets, but I won't lie if they came for sale I would probably buy them. I would fully understand why people who did the raiding and pvping would be ticked off for all of the effort they put into getting those pets now being for sale.
