@Aur - Great tip for farming them in the un-instanced ZG. I was having a hard time finding them in the wild. They seemed to spawn fairly regularly here; I found them far more frequently. Had a rare within 30 minutes even!
I got a little lucky with this one. First encounter yielded a rare for me. Caught it just north of the arena here on Moonrunner. Wasn't even hunting for it, but it certainly is the little cutie! <3
I found the best place to farm these was in the un-instanced version of Zul-Gurub. It shares spawns with the other zone pets so it is best to clear out all battle pets.

This is shaping up to be my longest sought wild pet rare. I've spent hours flying around both northern Stranglethorn and the Cape, caught more than one rare of every other type available in those zones, but have yet to see a rare Lizard Hatchling. At this point I don't even care if I get it in my favourite colour or breed.
It seems like some of the issue is that it shares spawn points with four other critter types, but only rarely appears as a second in battles against them.Just picked up a rare after a few hours of farming. coord 66/36 outside of Zul'Gurub!!
I can confirm that it changes colour.
Thought I might mention that this is a color changing pet. Random chance for one of the three colors on summons. At least mine is that way; got it in the Cape of Stranglethorn.
Encountered mine behind the walls of Zul'Gurub (not inside the instance).
