Patch 5.0.1 | Posted: September 25, 2012
This new arrival to Azeroth was spawned a short time ago. It seeks to thrive while awaiting its next phase of evolution.
Larva also appear as secondary battle pets to Maggots and Rats in Deatholme. Nobody should feel bad about killing off Maggots to get Larva. If you kill Spirit Crabs... oh, man....Â
Also, be sure to kill a common, non-battle pet Larva if you're Alliance since it's required in a select achievement
Has anyone ever seen a male breed of this pet? I collect both genders, but all the larvas I catch are female.. I am starting to wonder if warcraftpetss has a mistake here...
EDIT: ok, found a male, so hunt for rare continues... :D
I found one by itself south of Sanctum of the Moon in the larger pond. It was poor quality, but I captured it anyway since it seems like a fuss to get. 5 mins later in the south Dead Scar it was secondary to a maggot.
As previous comments stated, best place is the spirit crabs( lvl 5+), if your not getting what you want, make sure to kill crabs to make new spawns.
Was sad to kill the rare H/H Spirit Crab for the common Larva, but it was worth it.
Confirming that Larva shows up secondary to Spirit Crabs. Got extremely lucky in that the first one I found was rare!
Larva SHOWS UP AS A SECONDARY TO Spirit Crab! You just have to find a level 5 crab. The level 4 and 3 don't have a back line.  I read this on one of the comments so I'm just showing that it worked today, just walked up the west coast of Ghostlands and found it after the 3rd fight!Â
2 hours of farming and the two I've found have been secondaries to Rare Spirit Crabs. I opted for the rare the first time (bad idea). The rare Spirit Crabs are far more common that the Larva.
Found 3 in 10 minutes easy, they were back line pets to the spirit crabs along the west coast.
Was no easy at all. Took almost an hour to find one (found it in Goldenmist village NW coner of Ghostlands) and I accedently kill it...Finally found my second one about 30 minutes later in Tranquillien.Â
It was not easy to get one - i am not patient anyways But i found one as secondary pet (common). I am not looking further as i will not use it for battles. Mr. Grubbs is easier to find and funnier in my opinion and having the same abilities
After about 30 fights on Spirit Carbs, a random rare Larva shows up to save the day.
Yay, happy me \o/
I feel lucky... Ran around and found an uncommon spirit crab (third one), with an uncommon larva too. Opted for the crab, read comments, wept.. Went back to the spirit crabs, first one, got another uncommon crab with a rare larva! Yay :)Â
Oh lucky me!  I finally find my first Larva (common one) as a secondary to a lovely rare H/H Spirit Crab.  I already had a Spirit Crab but it wasn't a nice rare one so I opted for the rare and hoped to get another Larva soon. Â
Update: Â Several weeks later I still don't have a dang Larva and I'm knee deep in Pet Charms so I could have just upgraded my lower level Spirit Crab. Â If you get the Larva as your secondary - TAKE IT. Â
I wish I'd read the comments here before I started farming the Spirit Crab. I got a rare crab after 20 or so clicks, which had a rare larva along with it. Two rares together, and I didn't have either!! They were the only rares I saw in the 2 hours (90 min.?) I was in the area. I trapped the crab, and really wish I'd taken the larva - now I'm stuck with fighting only level 4-6 crabs, hoping for a larva second, and a rare at that.Â
I just found a Larva on its own in Ghostlands near Goldenmist Village.
In Deathholme, Eversong Woods. After several kills, got Uncommon Larva as 2nd to Common Maggot. Killed all paws for about 45 minutes - no Larva. Headed out of Deathholme, straight down Dead Scar, killed two Maggots and a Rat, on 3rd Maggot got Uncommon Larva as the 2nd. Fifth encounter was a Maggot, its 2nd was a Rare Larva loc 37.4, 62.7.
After all that, at Tranquillien by Blacksmith Frances found a lvl 3 Larva on its own, it was a Rare, tamed it! Didn't know they'd appear as singleton.
Finally got my Rare after 17.5 hours of battling in Ghostlands. Â So thrilled to be done with this grind. :)
Found 2 in Deatholme, secondary to maggot (poor). The other secondary to rat (uncommon). 1:40pm realm time.
Do these come in ant other breed besides B/B? Having such bad luck finding a rare that I figured i just stone an uncommon if i could find the right breed but seems all I catch are B/B. Don't have Tom Tom add so I'm going a little nuts here.
update: After posting this went back to fighting pretty much any pet that was flagged. Finally just outside An'daroth lvl3 Larva tagged itand low and behlod it was a rare @ 12:44 pm est on Thunderhorn. Thank goodness that's done! :-)
I had horrible luck trying to find a Rare. Spent over 6hrs farming Spirit Crabs and running around engaging every critter lv5 and over.
Finally got frustrated and just plugged all the spawn point co-ordinates into TomTom and I found a rare on my second "lap". However, I made sure to kill all the non-combat larva/spider/rats at every waypoint before moving on.Â
If you're having as bad of luck as I was, I highly recommend using TomTom to maintain your sanity.Â
