This pet is rewarded when your character completes the "Master of Minions" achievement. To complete this achievement, your character must possess at least 1000 unique vanity pets.

Is there a list of pets that have a special ability, i.e., Hearthy here, or the ability to be a cooking fire, or even fun stuff like turning you green or eating critters ?
I got him a few weeks ago, and he is quirky. Sometimes he acts like a hearthstone. But most of the time, I can't use him as one.
You just need 1000 pets, it doesn't matter where or when they are from.
This pet has a couple of interesting characteristics that I've noticed so far. When summoned, it has the effect of someone using their Hearthstone. Also, the pet itself is clickable and activates your Hearthstone cast when doing so. If your Hearthstone is on cooldown, it does nothing. Other people cannot activate the Hearthstone ability with the pet, even if they are in your group.
This would be a good pet to set up some fights with. Even a Murkalot team due to the weather effect he has. I hope I can reach 1000.... XD
@Simmias - I'm not in game, so I can't check with an add-on, but using WoWhead there's about 1109 pets total.
Excluding Store, TCG, Promotion and some listed as Unknown, brings the total down to 1014.
Depending on how you are with alts, you could exclude another 9 due to order hall pets, which brings you down to 1005.
So it's possible, just really cutting it close.Hearthy is the only Elemental pet to have Portal.
In fact, he is one of the only 4 pets to have it so far (8/1/2018).
It's typically used as an avoidance ability that has little value except in suprise moves during PvP battles, or pre calculated moves in NPC battles. If humanoid, that ability is way better when used in a team that does front line damage while the backline humanoid gets healed when damage is done to the enemy.
