Patch 4.0.3 | Posted: November 28, 2010

To begin the quest chain that will ultimately reward players with this pet, players must start in Western Burning Steppes at Flamestar Post. After completing all the quests offered there, players will be sent to the next quest hub in the zone, Chiselgrip. Finally, once all quests from and associated with Chiselgrip have been completed, players will travel to their faction's main area within Burning Steppes (Morgan's Vigil for Alliance and Flame Crest for Horde) where they will complete the final quest to receive the companion.

Note: Because one of the Horde NPCs in the Flamefly quest chain, Kibler, is part of the Booty Bay faction, Horde players that are hated with this faction will need to raise their reputation with Booty Bay to complete the second to last quest in the Flamefly chain.

A little background for those of you chasing this pet. The quest chain actually starts in Flamestar Post from Ariok 17.42 51.80 ( Horde ). Do all his quests from here. Eventually (about 9 quests ) you will get sent to Chiselgrip where you hand in ,at last Etrigg will appear 44.61 44.58 .Then another series of quests opens from Stebben Oreknuckle ( about 8) before you get sent back to Etrigg. Then off to Flamecrest to Kibler for 1 quest & the pet.

Very nice flyer, especially against mechanicals. Even with a lowish 260 power the Burn ability will hit for 500 health against mechs, couple that with Immolation and Swarm and mechanicals go down fast. Excellent against Decoy pets, Immolation and then Swarm burns through the Decoy and doubles the Immolation damage. With 292 speed it will still often be faster even after losing the racial bonus. Pretty decent pet, not really at Crow/Raven power levels though. Try combining it with Black Claw.

This guy to my boyfriend and I hours to get. I spent at least two hours trying to figure out where the series starts. FLAMESTAR POST that's where it started for us with John J. Keeshan. But yeah, pretty on par with everyone else it took us a little over an hour to complete the quest line which was truely one of the most ridiculous lines of quests I've ever done.

The Alliance Quest: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=28415

The Horde Quest: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=28491

The link takes you to the final quest, but if you look to the right under "series" you will see the quests that lead to this one in order.

If you haven't done any of the quests since they re-vamped the zone, you will want to start by speaking with 'John J Keeshan' at Flamestar Post.

Happy Hunting!

I can't seem to figure out where to get the quests to get this pet. I thought it started at Flame Crest but all I ended up with was a trip to SoS. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Because you have to do a chain to get this pet I kept putting it off thinking it would just be wasting time, but it's actually pretty interesting. Plus Ettrig following you around is pretty awesome. The only thing with this pet that bugs me (no pun intended) is that it looks like the model should be switched with the firefly.

I love his coloring. I usually don't like "re-skinned" pets, but I like this guy :)

If you are hated by steamwheeled, I'm pretty sure you could just do the quest with a friend that isn't and you both will get credit for killing the elemental once your friend starts the fight.

But as everyone has said, these are some pretty fun quests. And the quest dialogue made me laugh out loud a few times.

Thanks so much to the eagle-eyed fellow collectors who mentioned this guy even before the write-up---- I was able to add him just a few days after he came into existence! He has the same 'skin' as the captured firefly, but his coloring makes his animation stand out even better, imho.

Took me an hour or so to get, with out distractions...kids don't ya love em... should have done it when kids were sleeping!! Actual real time was 4 hours...but anyway, the quests are so easy to do just time consuming..Definately still worth it for the serious collectors like us...happy hunting to all!!

One thing people need to think about when getting this pet is their standing with the Steamwheedle cartel (eg. Gadget, Ratchet, Everlook). My mage is currently hated by these goblins, so she is unable to talk to Kibler to do the last part of the chain.

@Alein: Pet rarities are based on the number of WarcraftPets users who have collected a given pet. Since we just added this one to the site yesterday, it came up as ultra-rare. But I agree, that's confusing so I manually changed it to uncommon. We'll see what the stats say in a week or two and we'll update it again.

I have to wonder why this pet is classified as Ultra rare when anyone who does the quest chain will be rewarded with it. Just curious really.
Its a great little pet and it matches my firefly! :D
ETA:
Thanks for the update. It seems more clear now, to me anyways. :D

A diamond in the rough. A hidden, bonus pet for those dedicated enough to quest themselves into unconsciousness. Luckily, I've never been the sharpest hammer in the drawer, so I'll be grinding out this lil' guy in short order.

You have to continue the quest-line (which starts at Morgan's Vigil) through Burning Steppes for this guy, but it's obviously worth it! The quests are straight-forward and it's obvious what you have to do, you should get the Seven Yup quest between halfway and three quarters of the way through the Burning Steppes Quests achievement.
