Patch 5.0.1 | Posted: September 25, 2012
A key food source during the Feast of Winter Veil.
This was one of the first pets I collected for appearances only in 2012. S/S has proved very effective in World Pet Battles against some very tanky opposition. Squawk and Flock dominates big hitters, combine it with a lightning storm.
Second only to an Emperor Crab as one of my go to battle pets.
Got two B/B rares in about 20 minutes as secondaries to Howling Fjord Pups.
As a Horde character, I find that this pet has been very hard to obtain. I have been hunting it for about a week, at least 3 to 5 hours a day. As a 101 level hunter, As mentioned, I get killed when I try to ninja the turkeys out of the 2 Alliance areas in Howling Fjord. As an alternative, I have been hunting Worg pups on the island to the SW as the turkeys are coming up as add ons on many of the battles. I literily have been around that island 25 times. i GOT HIM!
A good pet to use for capturing wild pets because of his Food Coma ability, which always hits. I'll hit a pet twice with it and then trap twice in a row. Even if it doesn't work, it at least sets up the trap for the next attempt.
I lucked into getting two rare ones and I use them when hunting for rares quite a lot.
Two of my most used pets for taming and for battle/leveling - this and the Highlands Turkey. Food coma (all except critters), pull in the leveling lowbie, then on to the finish the match pet (usually a moth if aquatics). Two teams, rotate them back and forth. and only heal up when they're both low.
wow just caught one as a horde in a alliance area. wont do that again. i have one, but nearly got killed. oops.
Speediest of the three Turkeys with 325 speed. I suggest going for a P/S Highlands Turkey instead, or a Plump Turkey if you need the health. But if you feel you need the speed this one is you poultry. Turkeys are ok against Aquatic, but their basic attacks are not very spectacular against other enemies. With Food Coma they can be very useful in PvP to control the battle. Squawk is not much of a defense, but Gobble Strike speed boost can be a life saver.
I have NEVER in my life as playing Horde had an ally be nice to me. I was right outside of Valgarde trying to get my turkey. Yeah.. I am not subtle.Flew right in, got flagged, and guards attacked me. I had to kill them in defense. A 90 ally swooped down, and started fighting me. He casted an AOE on me which killed my turkey. I cried on the turkey's corpse, and he stopped attacking me, and left. I like it when people get what I am doing. Got my turkey 5 minutes after that :) WOO!
Spawn time in Valgarde is indeed still quick enough to simply run in a circle fighting the 4-5 spawns that appear there. Took me exactly 10 battles to land a rare. This was also the last common pet I had in my collection. Now to upgrade those 150 or so uncommon ones...
I am die hard Horde, but I have a lvl 47 Worgen that I made for fun one time so I took the boat to Valgard and found that there are about 5 spawn spots for the turkeys you can battle (even though there are bunch around). Went through about 5 or 6 battles before I got a rare. A friend of mine made a DK Alliance toon, went to Howling Fjord on the boat to Valgard and got her Turkey that way.
I am feeling ever so cheeky! There was only one spawn that I could see wandering around inside Valgarde, I snuck in and hid in the graveyard by the wall and when it got close enough I engaged it and it was a rare! Whoot! I was concerned that pvp players can hit you when you are taming but wasn't sure about the guards. Happy to report a troop rode by on horseback while I was taming and nothing happened. Waited til they left before final kill. mounted and left asap!
Although these guys do spawn in small numbers in the alliance towns Valgarde and Westguard Keep, it was much quicker getting a rare one by finding it as a secondary. For me atleast. Happy [pet] hunting!
If it helps on horde side - Towards the North Eastern portion of Westguard Keep a turkey spawns. Near the explorer league mounts. There is a guard near by, but if you're 85+ you can sneak in and jump into a pet battle before anyone sees you. I got my Uncommon this way.
Got a rare today 2nd fight turkey was in Valgard hiding in a hut
Finally found a rare as a second to a worg pup after months of killing everthing in Howling fjord. Was to the point I thought I was going to have to waste one of my Flying stones on the uncommon I had already. Tried the turkeys in Vanguard with nothing but Poors and commons comming up. So glad this one is done now all that's left to farm as a rare is Artic Fox Kit bring on the snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
Finally gave up trying to get it as a secondary pet after I found rares of every other pet in the zone and still didn't have this one. So far I've spent over 4 hours fighting them in westfall keep and valguard with no luck. What a pain it is as horde! Multiple attempts to enter battle without getting in combat, then when you finish you're in combat with the level 90 guards. Plus the alliance players that kill or battle the pet when they see what you're doing. Highly frustrating.
These turn into little thanksgiving day turkeys when they die. Very cute Blizz. XD
I just spent the past two hours trying to catch my turkey. I battled worg pups and hoped for a secondary none :( i went to valguard as suggested and spent about another thirty minutes trying to get out of combat to engage this turkey. When I finally was out of combat the thing went into a silly tent/cabin and the battle area was "obstructed" i took a break in LFR When i zoned back into the area, i saw one by the dock, and i swooped in for the kill. My heart jumped for joy when it was rare!
Seriously not very fair on horde really....true you can get some as tagalong...but....only way you'll be sure to get one in a fight is going into a ally city. I mean: allyas can enjoy safety as they try all the turkeys they can get till they find a rare and hordes need to kill worg pups in hope you might get a secondary turkey and hope will be a rare one....lots of hoping really...or just jump in and be carefull not to get into battle and ruin your pet fight plan.
Horde Help:
Go to Valgarde and hover above town. Target the Turkey. Keybind the "Interact with Target" Key to something on your keyboard and divebomb in hitting that button repeatedly until you land. You SHOULD enter into battle before anything throws you into combat. I just did it and got a poor and a rare turkey with a rat in third.
