Considered by most to be a significant improvement to the 4000 series, there were nonetheless serious concerns about the amount of heat they produced.
My first Mechanical and I still in love...
I found this pet very useful using armor plating, rabid strike and metal fist. Since he works so well I obtained a P/P, S/S and P/S. I think P/P and S/S are must haves and you should try those out first before deciding what breed you want for your 3rd.
P/P has a 309 attack 260 speed mandating Overtune if you want to use Thrash, H/H suffers from being slow as well but can counter with Extra Plating to take the hits. I prefer S/S, 325 speed which is able to surpase even the fastest pets with Overtune (650), and usually faster even without, letting Thrash do the same or more damage than Metal Fist, negating his lower power. Never take mixed breed over pure unless you are aiming to beat a specific pet and trying to min/max
Just got one while hunting Turquoise Turtles. It was the secondary pet. Uncommon P/P. Any opinions on preferred breeds?
I got my rare as a secondary to Alpine Chipmunk just south of Mazthoril. Alpine Hares, Alpine Chipmunks, and Crystal Spiders can all have Rabid Nut Varmint 5000 as a secondary.
I find this guy one of my most favorite pets to battle with. His Extra Plating essentially doubles your health for three rounds, at the (sad) downside if being unprotected for one round. He hits like a truck with Rabid Strike, and the dual effect is somewhat negated by the Extra Plating.
Finally got my rare as a secondary after a poor one inside Everlook. I already had begun to doubt they even exist as rares, particularly since literally every other pet in Winterspring was very easy to find as rare; I got most of them twice or even three times.
I just captured an uncommon one of these little guys in a different area than the map, found him by accident :)
Saw one next to some rabbits, got a rare on the first try, haven't seen another yet. Level 6 in Azshara!
Love this little guy, Extra plating, Rabid strike and Trash is a great combo.
Found my rare as a secondary to Shore Crab near the Ruins of Eldarath.
Got a rare as a secondary pet in Stonetalon while trying to find a rare venomspitter in Webwinder Hollow. I didn't see many of them (1-2), and it took be about 25 battes to get the rare spider, so if you don't have any luck in the normal spawn spots, try there.
I was lucky enough to get a rare one on my first try in Ashara. It is one of my main battle pets now. :P If you are still looking, around the Rocket Bases in Ashara you can normally find a few. I think even everywhere where a Goblin can be found there is a good change to see this pet..
This guy is an excellent match-up against Major Payne's Grizzle. If you get a rare one, his speed can be just slightly higher, and his plating lets him survive the bear's brutal attacks. On top of that, you can infect Grizzle with rabies right before he goes to sleep for some consequence-free damage boosting action.
Caught a rare Rabid Nut Varmint inside Everlook at 60.0 50.6 at 1015pm Zangarmarsh time or 1215am EDT. I've looked for this pet in Winterspring and found poor quality ones as secondaries, but this one was the primary. I didn't even make the rounds and kill robocritters [I hate to do this anyways]. This is right after catching a common quality Robo-Cub! I'm very happy and good luck to you other pet hunters :) The Robo-Cub was on a hill near Horde Flight Master as another poster suggested. Thanks!
I got this one to in Azahara but it does not show up in my pet journal. Anyone know why?
This game never ceases to amaze me, I spent nearly 2 hours the other night leveling up pets in Stonetalon and searching for a rare 5000 only to go away completely empty handed. Tonight I've seen 3 rares already in maybe 15 battles. Glad I can finally stop searching for this one I prefer Duskwood for level 5-7 battles.
Found some in Windshear Crag, Stonetalon Mts. As main and secondary pet.
In Azshara i got it as a green secondary pet many times, but in winterspring got it as a rare first battle.
Was suprised to find one as the front animal just outside Everlook because I was under the impression they only came as secondaries to other animals in the zone.
