This companion is a rare tier Tol'vir archaeology item. It is created by discovering and "solving" 150 Tol'vir Archaeology Fragments. Players may utilize up to three Tol'vir Hieroglyphic to aid in the solving of this item. Each Tol'vir Hieroglyphic is the equivalent of 12 Tol'vir Archaeology Fragments.
Once completed, an entry on the Crawling Claw can be found in players' archaeology tab: "A legend among the tol'vir tells of a wicked djinn whom the Ramkahen sought to destroy. In an attempt to prevent his own death, the djinn tried to transfer his spirit into the body of a monkey. He was slain right in the middle of the transference, and only a fraction of his essence had moved over - only enough to possess the monkey's paw."
Although this pet is Bind on Account, the item will disappear once learned.
After the nerf this pet is both a literal and figurative monkey paw.
It still sells for a lot of gold if you get one though.
I'm just keeping mine for completion.
there are three buildings in Uldum, Lost city of Tol'vir, Halls of Origination, and the floating one The Vortex Pinnacle. There is a person or object with a blue exclemation mark that requires one heiroglyph. Doing those really helped me. Got mine the very day that I finished all three. I went in with a 103 hunter and had no problem.
I've been watching the AH for years for a chance to buy this pet. I found him yesterday for $195k, already lvl 25, and bought a token. Luckily it was still available when my token sold. I've been keeping gold saved on two servers and buy/sell my pets on both, depending on which has the better price. I recommend doing this if you play on more than server. Thank goodness for tokens, for those spontaneous opportunities! Happy hunting!
Just bought this pet from the auction house from some poor soul for 112 gold. So glad I no longer have to dig for him!
GOT MINE OVER WEEKEND! years of digging FINALLY pays off!
I have just got this pet after years of turning in restored artifacts to get tol'vir fragments. Hooray!!
Ended up having to buy this pet after all. I just don't have the time to wander around... and around... poking at the ground.
Five hundred and eighty nine Tol'vir solves and... I still don't have this pet.
I mean, if this was a whale I would be chasing it to the end of the earth with a harpoon.
Lightfoot, you need to buy the crate items from the mote vendor and then trade those to Bran or the Arakoa vendor in Ashran for the turn in; you've never been able to trade the motes directly.
Got a little excited when I read Motes of Harmony could be traded with Brann Bronzebeard for a.frags - but that no longer appears to work ... or I'm missing a step somewhere ... anyways the Tol'vir frags for this pet is also very elusive for me ... argh ... "I luv archaeology ... I luv archaeology ... I luv archaeology ..." Update: I discovered the place to trade Spirit of Harmony for Arch frags ... still no luck on Solving for the Crawling Claw ....
Wow....this is crazy hoping I get mine sooner but I doubt it!?
Been farming first Pandaren and now Draenor archaeology for trade-ins since early in the MoP days. I have more than one toon with the profession, but mostly farm on my main. I've completed between 16 and 27 of each of the commons, 1 each of 4 rares, and still no Claw. Meanwhile, I have both Draenor pets from Archaeology already.... Some days I think I'll lose my mind. Just adding my story of woe to the others. Enjoy!
So, after nearly two years farming for the claw my guild mates were so sick of seeing the gatherer notes pertaining to my dig sites they made a pool and bought a claw for me
After a year actively digging for this pet, I gave up. I got tired of spending my weekends flying all over Pandaria. Then I needed a few fossil fragments for the DM Faire quest (Fun for the kiddies) and a digsite opens in Uldam. I fly over it on my way to Obalis. It completes my Engraved scimitar hilt ( #32) and boom I see Mummified Monkey paw.... took me a sec to realize that I needed to crap my pants... then I did. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone know if you can get multiple claws by continuing to farm archeology? Im interested in playing around with a team of Crawling Claws for pvp. Not sure if its worth all the work... :)
Can be tough to get, but after Death Grip nerf this pet is definetly not a top one. Can still be used for Agony/CoD and Death Grip, but if Grip misses you just have to stand there, never re-apply Agony let it run it's course. Rot is a bit out of place and you need a critter attack companion to make best use of it. It can heal, but then you got to go with Shadow Slash, and comparing it to Fossilized Hatchling the Hatchling wins out due to BONESTORM. Does not feel that powerful anymore.
Not sue sure if anyone has left this idea but the easiest way to get this rascal now is to get the item that makes you only have mantid digs for a whole day. That cuts down on traveling. You then turn all items into restored then trade each one in in seat of knowledge. Turn them in to Braan for Tolvir box. I think this will speed up getting this pet or anything you want in archaeology.
and still the little girl waits and hopes that one day she will have this pet, have lost count how many digs i have done to get this guy :(
Typically these claws sell for around 10-25k on most servers, but I suggest solving it yourself. If you're having trouble with Tol'Vir solving I suggest waiting until you have at least 3-4 archaeology sites in Uldum before heading there. At first I would go when I had one, but then I would wind up flying back up north to another dig site. I decided to wait until 3-4 sites appeared in Uldum before heading there. It guaranteed me a solve each time I went.
Wow, I did not know that I had this much patience! I did archeology for a month and a half to get this little guy! I was so happy when he showed up I screamed. My son thought I was crazy. But finally after 2,000 Tol'vir solves and who knows how many Pandaren solves I got him!
wow, two crawling claws will play a version of rock paper scissors, very neat
