Grab the Handy Notes Mists of Pandaria addon to show locations of treasures and rares. 

Explore the zone with dragon riding takes but a few minutes.

Complete a few Townlong Story lines.

By the time I finished 3/5 Townlong campaigns I hit Exalted with Shado Pan which was the final bit to unlock the Calf.

Very surprising how fast you can raise a 25 man raid when you add the phrase "NEW PET" to the title.  Not so surprising is how many leave after Alysrazor dies.  

Farmed what I needed in Upper Reaches level 12 with my mage (lvl70)  for 100 tower knowledge per run, each less than 4 minutes.

I waited a little while before venturing into Gnomeregan so this site could flesh out a bit. There were a few fights listed that had the same pets, but it only took 5-10 minutes to pick the best set of strategies that work consistently, including some backup teams in case they don't.

Run four quests from your garrison which give 5 spooky supplies. Buy and use the Creepy Crawlers from the quest hand in vendor. Pets appear all over garrison to be captured in the usual way. I was hoping for a bit more content, this is trivial.
