Not being able to do new pet stuff has been brutal for me. I killed myself getting to 110 and then find out I STILL can't do pet battles until I get other things out of the way. I finally got everything but Suramar rep yesterday. I've been consoling myself with wild pet battles but its not as fulfilling. I dont know what Im going to do with my Paladin as Ive pretty much leveled her exclusively through pet battling and that isn't going to work in Legion.

What you can do, before World Quests are open on a character, is work on Family Familiar.

My mage is impatiently waiting for the last few tamers to appear for the Pet Portal, but I pushed my Paladin to 110 without the reps, and he is beating every tamer that appears on all families. He doesn't get quest credit, but he does get credit towards Family Familiar. I finished off all families on Bredda, Ameila, Sir Galveston, and a few others, and I see Grixis is up today, so I'll be able to cross that one off the list as well.

You do need to know what tamers are up. You can battle a tamer only if that tamer's World Quest is on at the time.

The battles in Legion are nothing special. If you're used to Pandaria and Draenor, you'll probably one-shot everything without much thought, but some of them are quite tough to do with certain families alone. I must have spent two hours on Bredda with Magic and Flying pets.

You sir (or madam) are my newest hero. Question for you (or anyone else): can these be done on a non-110 character?

No, the Family Familiar battles can't be done below 110, or at least if they can, I have no idea how to trigger it. Pity.

I had heard about it. My Paladin was 106 - I had been levelling him lazily when I wanted a break. I decided to just get the levels and try it. As a result, I now have 6 of the 15 tamers covered with all families.

I'm up to 9/12 with all Families, (except humans are done). Waiting and hoping for some I don't have today
I have one 110 I purposely did not get world quests on yet, just to do this.

Pet collectors are good at waiting... usually.

Don't worry, from everything I've read, it would appear that Flummox is the one to skip since you only need 12/15 trainers. He is almost (?) impossible to beat with all 10 pet families. In fact, I have yet to see a guide that shows successful strats for him in this meta. I'm choosing to battle him when he pops, with whatever pets can beat him, and not worry about trying to include him in this achievement. Good luck, and if you do find strats that work for him, let us all know!

You need Nightfallen rep and unlock the Suramar daily world quests in order to see Flummox, and yes, he will be a green paw on your map when available.

But a word of caution about Flummox. By all accounts, he is nearly impossible to beat with all families for Family Familiar, and worse than that, many people are reporting a bug where if they do actually beat him, they don't get credit toward the achievement. That being the case, I would recommend skipping Flummox. You can skip three tamers and still complete this achievement.

The good news is, to my understanding, is that you can skip ANY three on ANY of the single family achievements and still get the meta, as each individual achievement is beat 12/15, then you get that achieve, and so on, so it's not "beat 12 of these 15 tamers with 10 families" it's "Beat 12 tamers with the same family" ten times.

At least, that's how I'm reading it. If Flummox is indeed not working as intended (I've only defeated him once, and I have NO idea if I used all the same family or anything), then you can pick any two tamers from each of the other achieves to skip, and it doesn't have to be the same ones.

I'm using Xu-Fu's guides as well as the guide in Pet Battles here when I get stuck, but trying to figure out most of them on my own. :)

I'm 23/30 for Pet Portal....no new ones today, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow!
Thaliana#1794 - My WoW account has 50 toons, so I would so greatly appreciate people creating toons on Kael'Thas or Ghostlands to trade with me. <3

The way all of the Family Familiar subachievements work is you need to beat any 12 of the 15 tamers listed with a team consisting of pets from 1 family. Doesn't matter which 12 you pick.

As Flummox is still bugged as far as we know, you might as well call it "beat any 12 of 14 listed."

I started with critters and have now finished that achievement. Now working on magic. Any "duplicate" tamers that come up (ones I've already done with both critter and magic), I'm doing human, then aquatic, then... flying maybe. Haven't made it that far yet.

I didn't do any research into Legion, I wanted to experience everything first inworld with no spoilers.

Made for a very fun first few days but now I pay the price of getting late to important content. I found the quest to grind for the journal expansion, but wasn't aware of the whole family line and its final pet reward. Ive got a small spattering of them done, 4 max in any category (dragons) others with 2 or 1 or none >.<

These days first thing I do is open worldmap, look for all the pet quests, then check their trainers against the required fights first for Dragons! then down the list, and if I find no achieve req fight, pull out a reliable 2 man + leveling pet team.

Raid demands are gonna start cutting into my pet time as well. I should be at these achieves for some time lol.

Battle 31/30 :-) all with just one team (*)
Undead 12/12

Aquatic 11/12
Beast 11/12
Critter 7/12
Dragons 7/12
Elemental 4/12
Flying 3/12
Humanoid 2/12
Magic 3/12
Mechanical 5/12

1/10 Family Familiar

(*) Best team ever : Bone Serpent (HH 1/2/1) - Bone Serpent (PS 1/2/1) - Graves (HP 1/2/2)
Almost unbeatable, just, if needed, some adjustements on abilities and it works, anytime

Aulier and Varenne are also gated by Nightfallen rep. So the family familiar achievement is quite annoying to complete. Just want Durian and Ogdrogg to pop.

Aulier, Varenne, and Flummox are gated behind Nightfallen rep...how much? Honored? Reverred?

I'm doing the kirin tor world quest right now (+750 nightfallen for 4 quests)...any other ways to up nightfallen quickly?

I think max you'll need is honored. But I think you need to do the story line associated with Varenne so the vineyard area. Haven't seen Aulier yet, but wowhead comments are what I was basing it off of. And Flummox was stated previously here.

Indeed, they are locked behind quest chains - which in turn, are indirectly locked behind reputation. I believe you need 8k/12k into Honored to be able to complete the associated chains (Felsoul Hold, Twilight Vineyards and Menagerie).

It comes naturally if you do your Nightfallen quests, which are pretty much mandatory at 110 anyway.

I've been wondering about them. I am nearly exalted with the Nightfallen and have done the aforementioned storyline quests, but have never seen them appear. It's a little annoying.

I got Aulier today for the first time.

He surprisingly showed up during the early morning WQ refresh (03:00 CET) instead of the usual daily reset at 09:00. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I finished all storyline (09/11) and almost all side quests up until Xavius or reached 10k/21k revered last night before the WQ refresh.
