Grubbles, Scrags, Stings – Leveler Strategy

Post by Beave » December 11th, 2014, 10:51 am

This is a very easy Garrison Daily to level pets on if you have a Xu-Fu. Credit to AeroKargath at Wowhead for most of this strategy, I just refined it a bit for leveling a 3rd pet.

Team:
Xu-Fu (1-1-2)
Chrominius (1-1-2)
Leveler

Battle:
<Start with Xu-Fu>
Turn 1: Spirit Claws (If this misses throw in another Spirit Claws)
Turn 2: Prowl
Turn 3: Feed
<Grubbles Dead, Xu-Fu at full health>

Turn 4: Spirit Claws (Doesn’t hit, stunned)
Turn 5: Spirit Claws
Turn 6: Spirit Claws
Turn 7: Spirit Claws
Turn 8: Spirit Claws (If you didn't miss one or hit a crit you may need to pass here to avoid a kill shot)
Turn 9: Swap to leveler
Turn 10: Leveler Stunned
Turn11: Swap to Xu-Fu
Turn 12: Spirit Claws if it will finish him off, otherwise Prowl.
Turn 13: Feed
<Unless you’ve had horrible luck missing Spirit Claws, Scrags is now dead. If he isn’t use Spirit Claws again until you finish the job.>

Turn 14: Swap to Chrominius
Turn 15: Howl
Turn 16: Surge of Power
<Victory>

This fight consistently takes less than 2:30. If you want to power level some pets and heal up, you can probably get 23-24 runs in in an hour with pet treats for added experience.

I was killing them with the same two pets this morning so this definitely works. I had not yet found a good spot to swap in the carry pet so thanks for the suggestion! :D

Two minor improvements:

Turn 8: If Scrags is under 400hp and your leveler can absorb a hit, just swap them in here rather than taking a pass with Xu-Fu.

Turn 11: If Scags is under 280hp just swap to Chrominious and hit him with a bite attack.

Why?: Scags tends to crit at least once on Xu-Fu, and you want to avoid him taking Xu-Fu down with Ravage because it gives him a nice health boost. Xu-Fu misses enough attacks it will happen if you run this fight repeatedly. Better to just throw in Chrominius if he can finish the job. Stings always casts Focus his second attack, so you don't have to soak a ton of damage with Chrominius to get off Surge of Power. If Scags is over 280hp after your leveler send in Xu-Fu if you can. If he's under that Chrominius.

Thank you for the revisions, having so much better luck since I switched to this. Just leveled a bunch of pets to lvl 16 for an awfully big adventure!

I know it is less damage, but I switched spirit claws to bite and I really like the consistency from it vs the lots of misses I was getting with spirit claws. As a note, if you accidentally crit kill the 2nd guy before he stuns the 2nd time, you can do the carry pet swap when the 3rd pet does its focus buff (2nd round it is up).

EDIT:
Here's how it goes down with bite:

R1: Bite
R2: Prowl
R3: Feed (first enemy dies)
R4: Try to Bite but get stunned
R5: Still stunned
R6: Bite
R7: Bite
R8: Prowl
R9: Feed

At this point if you didn't crit any, the 2nd pet is down to 90ish health.

R10: Switch to carry pet (Takes a stun)
R11: Switch to Xufu
R12: Bite (second enemy dies)
R13: Switch to Chrominius
R14: Howl
R15: Surge of Power (done)

You can alternately just swap in Chrominius on Round 11

Alternate if you crit the 2nd pet and kill him on round 9:
R10: Bite with Xufu
R11: Swap to carry pet (3rd enemy always buffs on its second round)
R12: Swap to Chrominius
R13: Howl
R14: Surge of Power

One thing I noticed with your updated strategy is if you swap to Chrominius on Round 11 and use his bite to kill Scrags, it triggers the Dragonkin racial and you don't need to use Howl before Surge of Power as he is already doing 50% extra damage.

I don't have a very large sample size yet to know if it will always work, but I don't have any reason to believe that it won't.

Great strategy by the way!

hI;

thank you guys works like a charm.

some minor tweaks/optimization i did:
R1: Bite
R2: Prowl
R3: Feed (first enemy dies)
R4: Try to Bite but get stunned
R5: Still stunned
R6: Bite
R7: Bite
R8: Prowl
R9: Feed

At this point if you didn't crit any, the 2nd pet is down to 90ish health.

R10: Switch to carry pet (Takes a stun)
R11: Switch to Chrominus
R12: Bite (triggers Dragon 50% dmg Buff) and second enemy pet dies
R13: Surge of Power (with Dragon 50% its enough to finish the third pet)

edit: nvm, was already mentioned the optimization wit the dragon dmg buff

Is there anything that can swap in, instead of Xu-Fu? I don't have Xu-Fu yet is all, and I'd like to level on this if possible?

Thanks

I can definitely 2nd that thought - I had Xu-Fu miss FOUR times in one fight (and the enemy got crits twice). Needless to say I lost, but I'm stubborn. :D

If Archimedes, Samm and Jahan is there to fight, its your lucky day!
You will today be able to lvl your pets from lvl 3 to 25 in under 10 minutes!

Use [pet]Nexus Whelpling[/pet] and [pet]Celestial Dragon[/pet] or 2 Nexus Whelpling's.
The 3. pet you are gonna use is whatever pet you want but it has to be atleast lvl 3!

This is how the battle goes:
1. Nexus Whelpling meets Jahan. Use Mana Surge. This should kill him.
2. Nexus Whelpling meets Samm. If he dosnt die from your Mana Surge then use Arcane Storm. This should kill him.
3. Archimedes will now face you. Switch to your lvl 3 pet before Archimedes attacks! After Archimedes attacks switch to your Celestial Dragon.
4. Now just kill Archimedes with Arcane Storm and Moonfire.

Now do the fight a couple of times more to get your pet to lvl 25.
Use Pet Treat and/or Lesser Pet Treat to lvl up your pets even faster!
This Strat works well for today, originally posted [url=http://www.warcraftpets.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12320]Here in this thread[/url].

Usually finishes within 9 rounds. 7 if Nexus Whelpling gets some Crit hits. The reason pets should have at least a couple levels is that Jahan comes out with an AE that hits all pets and often crits for 234 damage. 156 if it doesn't crit. A Mechanical or Magical should be fine at level 1 though. Jahan only gets it off once, since he is dead by the end of round 2.

So get back to the grind! :lol:

I've modified Beave's battle plan a little, allows you to get your leveling pet in without any damage. With this strategy, you can take a level one to level 25 in six fights with safari hat and both food buffs.

Team:
Xu-Fu (1-1-2)
Chrominius (1-1-2)
Leveler

Battle:
<Start with Xu-Fu>
Turn 1: Spirit Claws (If this misses throw in another Spirit Claws, if second Spirit Claws misses, abandon fight, heal and start over)
Turn 2: Prowl
Turn 3: Feed
<Grubbles Dead, Xu-Fu at full health.>
<Scrags is now your opponent.>
Turn 4: Spirit Claws (Will not hit, Xu-Fu is stunned)
Turn 5: you're still stunned and Scrags gets a free hit.
Turn 5: Spirit Claws
Turn 6: Spirit Claws
Turn 7: PROWL
Turn 8: FEED (If this kills Scrags, then move on to option ONE. Is Scrags still alive? Move to option TWO.)

Option ONE:
<Stings is now your opponent.>
Turn 8: Spirit Claws
Turn 9: Spirit Claws
Turn 10: Spirit Claws (is Stings under 1110 and preferablly closer to 600 HP? if so, pass until Xu-Fu is dead.)
When Xu-Fu has died, immediately bring in your leveling pet and without using any spell, bring in Chromius on same turnl.
Chromius is your pet
Turn 1 (with Chromius, will actually be second round he's in): Surge of Power
<Victory>

Option TWO:
<Scrags is still your opponent.>
Turn 8: Bring in your leveling pet and he will be stunned.
Turn 9: Switch Xu-Fu back in, prioritizing, Spirit Claws until Scrags is dead.

<Stings is now your opponent.>
Continue using Xu-Fu, prioritize, Prowl and then Feed, Spirit Claws. If Xu-Fu doesn't kill Stings, switch to Chromius and if Stings is above 1100 HP, use Howl and then Surge of power, if Xu-Fu has wore Stings down to low HP, just use Surge of Power, it hits for 1110 consistently.
<Victory.>

The variation with Bite instead of Spirit Claws is much safer and more resistant to RNG. The only thing you must note is that if Xu-Fu crits Scrags (thus killing him) you need to leave Xu-Fu in to bite once at Stings. Then swap in your leveler (Stings will cast Focus as his 2nd move, always), swap to Chrominius - Howl > Surge.

If Xu-Fu doesn't crit then Scrags will have 92 health after Xu-Fu's Feed. Swap in your leveler and it will get stunned, then bring in Chrominius to bite Scrags and then when Stings comes out just Surge (the +50% dragonkin racial from killing Scrags will make surge do 1666 damage and Stings only has 1628 health).

I will have leveled 42 pets to 25 this way today (starting anywhere from 1 thru 21, basically every pet I've gotten since WoD released - I need them so I can test them vs all my guide's strats). Should be done in the next hour or so with the leveling grind.

Quoting this strat and bumping! Dailies reset in under an hour and this could be one of our last opportunities to use this! Thanks again to the posters above who came up with this.

I know I defeated these guys two weeks ago, but I can't remember the team I used....I don't have Xu-Fu...any other thoughts? I see Lil' Bad Wolf and Sentinel's Companion, but mine aren't leveled, as usual.

Good news is, I FINALLY have all the daily quests except Beasts of Fable and Pandaren Spirit Tamers open, so I may be able to level something tonight.

Any thoughts on how I can take these bad boys down?

Thanks!

All credit for this strat to Giove over at Wowhead:

Grubbles, Scrags & Stings:
Lil' Bad Wolf (must have 264+ spd, so all but the P/P will be fine here)
Iron Starlette (technically any Breed - I tested P/P, H/H, and P/S - but avoid H/H if you can)
Carry pet (will not take damage)

vs Grubbles
Dodge > Howl > Claw til Grubbles dies (usually 2-3 times)

vs Scrags
Swap to carry > swap to Iron Starlette > Wind-up > Toxic Smoke > Wind-up

vs Stings
Wind-up > Supercharge > Wind-up
If you are pushed into mechanical round before you cast Supercharge you can try to use Wind-up and finish off Stings with Lil' Bad Wolf - has happened once in about 40 battles so far, though, so is fairly uncommon.

Note: You really want to use a 305+ power version of the Iron Starlette. With the H/H you will need a 2nd application of Toxic Smoke. I let Toxic Smoke's last tick kill off Scrags so I started up vs Stings w/Wind-up already prepared, but then still needed to cast Toxic Smoke for that last little bit of damage.

Thanks to Vaxxus on Wowhead for yet another team, which is similar to the one just above. His uses a P/S Flayer Youngling as the first pet, and P/P Iron Starlette second. I used a straight Power Iron Starlette, as my P/P (Destruction) is not leveled.

Starting with the Flayer:
1. Deflect
2. Rampage
3 & 4. Rampage continues
5 (and maybe 6). Triple snap (first opponent dead)

Swap in leveling pet, which gets stunned.

Swap in Iron Starlette.
Wind up, Toxic Smoke, Wind up (second opponent dead)
Wind up, Supercharge, Wind up (third opponent dead)

This strategy appears to be a 100% winner. In several battles I haven't seen it come close to failing, even with crits by the bad guys.

This is a very fast AND EASY fight (as opposed to yesterday, which was decent experience, but a very long and technical fight to win). It is about 3k experience with the hat on, but no pet snack buff.

I've tried Vetteranger's Flayer strat with a S/S Flayer Youngling and a P/S Starlette and it's worked well. You go into the Starlette's racial, but it doesn't affect the outcome.

Totally different team for people who may not have the previously recommended pets.
While I've only tried one time, it did work, so I can't vouch for any consistency. May need some tweaking..

Arctic Fox - Dazzle, then howl, then Bite, bite , howl, bite...
Flayer Youngling - focus, triple snap, rampage
Infinite whelpling sleeping gas, early advantage, healing flame, sleeping gas.

Good Luck
