Flawless works in any case but I'm pretty certain people use Flawless stones upon receiving.
How it works: Step By Step process for those new at stone trading.
1) We meet on same server (This would have to be done twice since the stones are soulbound to whichever toon holds it. Party A meets on the same Server as Party B. Then repeat with Party B going to Party A's server.)
2) Cage the pet you wish to upgrade (Pets that can't be caged aren't eligible for this process, check your pet before hand)
3) Trade Caged Pet
4) Open Caged Pet
5) Summon the pet received
6) Use the proper stone on the acquired pet
7) Recage that pet
8) Trade back.

Question for future use:
Does stone trading work if the 2 parties summon their creatures and target the other person's creature and use the stones? Never was bold enough to try in case the stone is lost in the process.
