I asked the site this question before realizing the forum might also provide the answer...
I notice that some eBay sellers scribble / cover the ?sequence? number along the side of the pet redemption cards from BlizzCon (like the 2005 one for Murky). Others however don't don't do that and just show the number. Is there some danger in this number being displayed considering the actual code to redeem is the thing under the scratch zone?

If the code along the side is unique, it might be possible to somehow convert it into the scratch code.

I purchased the three pets from E-bay. The photos I saw on each of them was just the card with no modifications. As long as it's not scratched, I think you're good.
